Sara has just two weeks left to live - so she is celebrating Christmas early with her kids

"We are going to have Christmas morning with presents, followed by Christmas dinner and then in the evening we are going to have bonfire night too," Sara McLaughlin explained, as she has been told she has just two weeks left to live.

Last week, doctors told Sara, who is 37 and a mum of three children, that she had just weeks left as a result of the cancer.

The mum, from Stalybridge, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 after finding out that her family carried the BRCA1 gene.

Despite extensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment, Sara was told in 2017 her cancer was terminal after the disease spread to her neck and lymph nodes.

Medics were unable to tell Sara how long she had left to live until September 6th, when she visited the hospital after experiencing a sharp pain in her neck.

By this point, Sara was told her cancer had wrapped itself around her jugular vein and that she was unlikely to survive for longer than two weeks.

"It's just a ticking time bomb now," Sara said, speaking to the Manchester Evening News.

"To be honest, I am more scared for my kids than myself. I will take any pain the cancer throws at me but the worst bit was telling the kids.

"I am still doing radiotherapy just to try and put it off and my daughter keeps asking me whether it's going to make it go away."

"I have to explain that's not going to happen," she added.

Sara currently is at home with her three children aged 19, 11 and four and her long-term partner Ste.

In a double blow for the family, Sara's mother has also been diagnosed with terminal cancer, having also had breast cancer due to the BRCA1 gene.

The family made plans to bring Christmas Day forward, so that Sara can celebrate with her children for the last time.

"I just want to make as many memories with the children as I can," she said.

"They know we are bringing it forward and of course they'll still celebrate on Christmas Day, but sadly I won't be here."

Sara's close friends have set up a gofundme page to help contribute to the family with any ongoing financial support they may need.

Her best friend, Carly Bickerdyke wrote: "Sara has been given weeks to live, after fighting for so long, with young children being left behind.

"My friend doesn't want to die, she is young and doesn't want to leave her kids behind as she loves them too much.

"Christmas is coming and she won't be here so I'm raising money not just for toys or Christmas, but for her partner and kids to take the pressure off at such a horrible time."
