Sara Cox to star in new BBC show following Children in Need ultra marathon heroics

Sara Cox will soon front a new BBC series that invites viewers deep into the world of miniatures.

The Marvellous Miniatures Workshop is an eight-part TV series commissioned by the BBC, designed to introduce people to professional model makers who are passionate about the small scale.

Fronting the show is BBC Radio 2’s Sara Cox, who, hot off the heels of her incredible marathon run, is returning to the comfort of the studios after bracing the elements of the north of England.

This week, Cox raised a whopping £6m for Children in Need and stole the hearts of the nation as she ran the equivalent of five marathons across five days.

After enjoying some much-needed rest, Sara will return to what she knows best: presenting.

According to the press release, the upcoming show will follow miniaturists as they investigate and uncover personal stories of history and culture behind their miniature designs.

Produced by MGM Alternative, the showrunners confirmed they’d be using the latest tech and microscopic cameras to show viewers the full details of every creation.

They say it’ll be an “emotional journey from start to finish” for audiences, who get to meet truly extraordinary peope who cherish this craft.

Speaking about the upcoming series, Cox said she was thrilled to be working on the new project.

“We all have life events that hold a special place in our hearts, so I’m absolutely thrilled we are going to be recreating cherished memories and moments in time using the astonishing skills of our miniaturists,” she said.

“This show taps into our fascination with the tiny, from fantasy film to classic literature and as a naturally very nosey person, I personally can’t wait to find out the beautiful backstory that inspires each creation.”

Not much more is known about the release date, but fans can expect the daytime show to appear on TVs in the near future.

Rachel Platt, Commissioning Editor for BBC Daytime also added: “Many of us will remember our first set of building blocks, train set, or dolls house, so what a thrill to have one of those miniature worlds created around your own special memory.

“Combining the nation’s love of model-making with stories that are at once deeply personal and wonderfully relatable, each episode of this genuinely delightful series will be full of emotion, nostalgia - and exceptional skill.”
