Sara Cox says six-pack snap was a 'bit off-brand' but she's 'chuffed' with transformation

Sara Cox has confessed her recent ab-flashing snap was a "bit off-brand" for her but she is "so chuffed" to have a six-pack in her forties.

The Radio 2 DJ caused a stir on social media at the end of May when she took to Instagram to flaunt the impressive results of an intense training programme - after being inspired by pal and colleague Rylan to take on a fitness challenge.

Speaking about the reaction from the press and fans on Wednesday, Sarah said: "I was a bit naive and posted the actual abs shot last and a little bit hidden [within the Instagram carousel of images] because it's not really very me.

"I think people were curious and surprised because it's not really me to be posting in a bikini or underwear but there I was in a sports bra - it was a bit off-brand for me."

She added: "I was genuinely so chuffed at getting a six-pack at age 47. It's brilliant - I'm kind of keeping it up now."

Sarah was chatting with the Mirror at the Tric Awards in London, where she was nominated for a Radio Personality honour - narrowly missing out to Roman Kemp from Capital Breakfast.

In the wake of Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills making the switch 'over the road' to Radio 2 at the end of August, Sarah was keen to welcome her pal to his new station at the star-studded bash at Grosvenor House.

"Scott's a really good mate - I've known him for years - and he'll fit in beautifully on Radio 2," she proudly said on the red carpet when discussing the latest BBC radio shake-up.

"He's already has done when he's been on the station over the last couple of years and I can't wait - I'm going to be waving at him through the glass as I start my show and he finishes his."

Prior to joining Radio 2, like Scott Sara worked at the Beeb's flagship youth station - hosting the Radio 1 Breakfast Show amongst other time-slots prior to her departure in 2014.

Before leaving Radio 1, Sara also hosted a variety of show on Radio 2, and since 2018 has been the station's drivetime presenter.

"Every day [is so much fun]. I leave the studio four times happier than when I arrived," the star beamed as she discussed her career on Wednesday.

"It's just so good connecting with the listeners - we've got the best listeners in the world and they provide most of my content with their brilliant stories."

She added: "It's a pleasure and a privilege to have such an amazing job. It was always the dream to get to Radio 2 so it's literally a dream come true every day."
