Sara Cox accidentally ate dog meat in South Korea and thought it was fried chicken

Radio DJ Sara Cox has revealed she accidentally ate dog meat during a trip to South Korea after mistaking it for fried chicken.

The presenter explained the food mishap occurred when she was just 19 and on a visit to Seoul to pursue a modelling career.

She recalls how she accidentally ate what she thought was a fried-chicken bucket but soon realised it wasn't chicken at all.

Sara said she only realised it was actually dog meat when she got to the elbow bone.

Speaking about the incident on Alan Carr’s podcast Life's A Beach, she recalled: "I ate a little bit of dog by accident. I know! It is a weird [one]..

"I mean, I should say I would never ever went to actively eat dog on purpose.

|My dogs will be listening like, what? It was in a fried chicken sort of bucket-style thing, mind you, that could happen anywhere.

"But it was only when I got to the bone I realised it wasn't bone. It was kind of like an elbow. Coughing up the disc! It'll be in my lower intestine somewhere now."

The dog meat delicacy - known as gaegogi - was once commonly sold in South Korea, but it has since become illegal to kill dogs for their meat.

The DJ, who has a Maltese Terrier called Beano, wrapped up the segment with her well-known witty charm adding: "Hi to all the dog lovers out there!"

She recently took part in a 5k recently to fundraise for the dogs and cats at Battersea.

Sara will be back presenting her book banter show Happy Between The Covers tonight at 7.30pm on BBC 2.
