Saquon Barkley the only Giants to take part in #WeWantToPlay blitz

Dozens of NFL players joined together for a social media blitz on Sunday, posting messages with the hashtag #WeWantToPlay.

The purpose of the blitz was to put pressure on the NFL and force them to clarify and strengthen COVID-19 protocols prior to the official start of training camp, which remains scheduled to begin on July 28.

Superstars from Patrick Mahomes to J.J. Watt and from Russell Wilson to Richard Sherman took part in the blitz and made their voices heard, each posting the hashtag with a personal message of their own, but members of the New York Giants were noticeably silent.

In fact, only running back Saquon Barkley joined the player blitz, and he did so in a rather quiet and subdued manner nearly seven hours after the blitz began.

Even left tackle Nate Solder, the Giants’ NFLPA rep who previously threatened no football if appropriate safety measures could not be agree to, failed to take part in the social media blitz, merely sharing a few retweets from other members of the NFLPA.

It’s curious that Giants players were so quiet during this blitz despite likely supporting the overall message, but that may be merely a product of timing. We’ll see if any of them pick up the cause on Monday or as the official start to training camp nears.
