SAP Launches Cloud Edition of Customer Checkout

SAP has launched a new cloud-based version of its point-of-sale (POS) system, SAP Customer Checkout, cloud edition, as part of the company’s broader push toward cloud transformation. It is targeted towards retail, catering, merchandising, and sports and entertainment businesses, offering a unified system to manage everything from payments and coupons to loyalty points, gift cards, and returns.

The new cloud edition is fully integrated with SAP S/4HANA and other enterprise systems. It is designed to support both in-store sales operations and centralized POS management from the cloud.

Key Components of the Cloud Edition

The cloud version consists of two main parts:

  • SAP Customer Checkout manager, cloud edition: A centralized, cloud-based platform to oversee POS operations and integrate with other systems.
  • SAP Customer Checkout point-of-sale, cloud edition: A front-end system that runs in-store, handling transactions directly at the POS terminal.

The key differences from the older on-premise version are that the new manager now runs on SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP), aligning with the company’s overall cloud standards.

Features and Benefits

The cloud edition comes with a bunch of new features, including a redesigned self-checkout interface that allows customers to complete transactions independently. Other benefits include:

  • A future-ready POS system built specifically for retail, catering, and entertainment use cases.
  • Scalability to match growing business demands without sacrificing performance.
  • Reliable uptime through cloud infrastructure.
  • Continuous software updates and new features without service disruption.
  • SAP says the system also maintains local stability for on-site sales while leveraging cloud connectivity for backend processes.

Available Now

The SAP Customer Checkout cloud edition is now available for both new and existing customers. Businesses that adopt the solution will get access to the SAP Customer Checkout manager, cloud edition, as part of the offering.
