Saoirse Ronan and Saoirse-Monica Jackson collaborate with Cinematic to celebrate young filmmakers and draw awareness to piracy in the industry

Saoirse Ronan and Saoirse-Monica Jackson have joined Cinemagic to celebrate young filmmakers and highlight the threat of piracy to the Industry.

The Industry Trust for IP Awareness Ireland and Motion Picture Association (MPA) launched their latest #IMAKEMOVIES campaign today, focusing on the next generation of filmmakers and creatives.

The campaign is being run in collaboration with Cinemagic Film and Television Festival for Young People to shine a light on how they can bring their stories to global audiences, whilst urging fans to avoid illegal content.

A number of young rising filmmakers who are already creating movies through opportunities Cinemagic were featured in the launch.

This included four time Oscar nominated movie star Saoirse Ronan and Derry Girls’ favourite Saoirse Monica Jackson.

Both stars highlighted the opportunities and challenges that young filmmakers face while they were hosting Q&As and workshops with Cinemagic at the 30th Anniversary Festival.

The campaign also highlights how much passion and hard work the filmmakers have for their craft and the understanding of how piracy is a real and constant threat to their business.

Alison Crinion, Communications Director Irish Industry Trust said: “Piracy is a real threat to the growth of the Film Industry.

“The next generation of Industry professionals has illustrated with great honesty their passion for filmmaking and what the ongoing piracy challenge means to them in very real terms.”

Claire Shaw, Cinemagic, commented: “We hope the video makes people stop and think, to realise how their actions can affect young people carving out a career in the film industry.”

Due to the impact of Covid-19, this July Cinemagic Dublin has moved online presenting an exciting month-long online programme of screenings, seminars, tutorials, and short film juries which young audiences can enjoy from home. For more see cinemagic.ie
