AJ Foyt Racing’s Santino Ferrucci will miss Sunday’s Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto after suffering a crash during the warmup session hours before the race.
The 27-year-old was making laps in the closing minutes of the morning warmup session when his car snapped with oversteer at the exit of turn 7. Ferrucci attempted to correct the car, but slapped the left-side wall at corner exit and suffered suspension damage. The car then slid the right side into the tire barrier at turn 8 before coming to a stop in the warmup area.

Ferrucci was seen and released from the infield care center and cleared to compete, though he was seen icing his hand in the paddock afterward. But with limited time to make repairs - Sunday’s NTT IndyCar Series race was set to go live just three hours after his crash - AJ Foyt Racing elected to pull Ferrucci’s No. 14 Chevrolet out of the race.
“We regret to announce that the No. 14 Sexton Properties Chevrolet will not be repaired in time to compete in today’s race,” the team said in a statement on social media. “Following the incident in morning warmup, the damage sustained to the car requires extensive repairs that cannot be completed to the standard of safety and performance necessary to race.
“While this is a difficult decision for the team, the safety of our driver and crew remains our top priority. We want to thank our fans and partners for their understanding and continued support, and we look forward to returning to the track with the No. 14 next week.“
As a result of the withdrawal, the Connecticut native will be classified 27th (last) in the race results, awarding him just three points. It’s a disappointing setback for Ferrucci amid an otherwise solid season.
He’d entered Toronto tied with teammate David Malukas for 10th in the championship standings, with four top-five finishes in the past seven races.
Ferrucci is the second driver to miss a race in the past two weeks. Arrow McLaren withdrew Nolan Siegel from the second leg of the Iowa Speedway doubleheader after he suffered a concussion in a race one crash. Siegel was cleared to return to action in Toronto prior to the race weekend.
