Santiago Moreno Rangers transfer news as America de Cali drop star man and admit his head has been turned

Santiago Moreno was dropped by America de Cali this week as the reported Rangers transfer target causes waves in Colombia.

Steven Gerrard's Premiership title winners have been linked with the winger this summer as he looks to evolve his free-flowing Gers attack.

Manager Juan Carlos Osorio opted to ostracise the 21-year-old Colombian for the club's Copa Sudamericana second leg against Athletico Paranaense.

And it can't have helped matters to have such a significant player missing due to off-field distractions – his side would lose 4-1 to their Braazilian opposition to crash out of the tournament at the last 16 stage.

Osorio was incensed and explained the decision prior to the match in his press conference.

He said: "Santiago's decision - to consider the offer that he apparently has - has been strictly a decision of him, his agent and his environment.

"We consider that he does not have his head set on the team and much less on this very important game for him.

"For that reason, after talking to him, we decided that he should be marginalised from the team.

"We invited Santiago to make a decision and obviously the decision is that he is considering leaving."

It's said Moreno is one of a growing number of young South American stars who are interested in a move to America's MLS but the identity of the club who has made an offer is unknown so far.
