Santi Cazorla targets Arsenal coaching role as Mikel Arteta is told to sign Thomas Partey

Santi Cazorla eyes Arsenal return

Former Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has made clear once again his desire to return to Arsenal in the future.

Cazorla, a fan favourite during his time at Arsenal, left the club in 2017 for Villarreal and fans have kept track of his progress after his career was nearly ended by injury.

The 35-year-old revealed this week that he’s eyeing a north London return, even registering an interest in a behind the scenes role.

"I don't know what my heritage is," he told AS. "You have to ask the fans, but I want to thank everyone.

"I don't know what I will do next, maybe a coach, maybe a sports director, but I would like to come back."

Arsenal told to sign Thomas Partey as part of summer double swoop

TV pundit and former footballer Robbie Savage has told Mikel Arteta to secure the signature of Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey this summer.

The Gunners are keen on defensive reinforcements, having struggled at the back this season, and are still looking for a world-class enforcer.

With William Saliba returning to the club this summer and speculation surrounding a move for Dayot Upamecano, Arteta’s plans are clear when it comes to bolstering at the back.

But Savage thinks Arteta must not overlook the chance to sign a quality player to sit in front of that defence.

"I think Arsenal defensively… will they go for a strong midfield player? I know Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid has been talked about," he told BT Sport. "I think he would be a good signing.

"And a defender, whoever that may be."

Wenger speaks on United rivalry

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has spoken out over his rivalry with Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United.

The two were often at loggerheads as Arsenal and Manchester United went head to head for England’s top domestic honours, and even clashed in Europe too.

But the two are now close friends, and Wenger has spoken candidly about his relationship with Ferguson.

"Our relationship has gone through different stages, with ups and downs. Today, we have a very peaceful relationship and that was not always the case," he told BeIN Sports. "When there is a big rivalry, we had some heated moments and we had some big fights as well but when the war is over, the respect comes in again because we both did just fine for our clubs.

"Of course [we brought the best out of each other]. We learned as well to control our emotions, to mature and to always be in the desire to become better.

"He was a sensational manager but I give him credit as well as he always knew how to move forward, he was not a guy that stood still on his success and took decisions to move forward at the right moment, he was never scared to make changes when he felt it was needed.

And Wenger also shared his thoughts on Manchester United’s struggles post-Fergie.

He said: "The biggest period of the success of Manchester United was linked with an exceptional generation that came out of the club. Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, Butt, Neville, this generation, it was life or death for Manchester United.

"When you lose this generation, to repeat that again with top-level players, you lose that cohesion, and you have to rebuild that, it's not easy and it takes some time."
