Santi Cazorla given guard of honour after playing final game for Villarreal

Former Arsenal star Santi Cazorla was given a guard of honour by teammates and opponents as he played his final game for Villarreal on Sunday.

The Spanish club announced on Saturday that Cazorla would be leaving the club at the end of the season, making the meeting with Eibar on the final day of the LaLiga season his swansong.

He was substituted in the 82nd minute of the 4-0 win having recorded an assist and was given a standing ovation by those in attendance at the behind-closed-doors fixture.

The 35-year-old began his professional career at Villarreal and returned to the club in 2018, having almost been forced into retirement by an horrendous Achilles injury towards the end of his time at Arsenal.

The midfielder’s renaissance has been remarkable, with his form this season even earning him a recall to the Spanish national side.

He is yet to confirm his next career move, having been linked with a coaching role at Arsenal under former teammate Mikel Arteta.
