Santander down as customers unable to use online banking or access money

Santander online banking has gone down leaving hundreds of customers unable to make transactions.

Online banking and card payments appears to have crashed and some people are locked out their account, unable to make transfers or withdraw money.

The issues started on Monday morning at around 5:30am, with almost 1,000 customers reporting problems, according to Down Detector.

Santander wrote a service update on its website that stated: "We're sorry that a technical problem is affecting our Online and Mobile Banking services.

"Our teams are working hard to fix the problem. Please check back here for further updates."

Furious customers took to social media to complain after being unable to access their account on Monday morning.

One wrote: "This is getting to be a joke now!! I bank with several banks but Santander is the worst!’"

Another commented: "There has been a message on the app for a while telling people they are going to be doing maintenance online……"

Santander said on it website that cash machines are working as normal, however there is issues with online banking, mobile banking and card payments.

The bank stated: "We are aware that some customers are currently experiencing issues with card payments and as a result our phone lines are very busy.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and are working hard to resolve this as soon as possible. Please check back here for updates."
