Santa's sweet surprise for 50 lucky children in Crumpsall and Cheetham Hill this Christmas

Santa will be surprising 50 lucky children in Crumpsall and Cheetham Hill.

Crumpsall-based organisation Rainbow Surprise is arranging for a 'Santa Surprise' for deserving children under the age of 13.

On Monday 20th December, Santa will be visiting the children at their doorstep and dropping off presents.

The visit will take place between 2pm and 6pm.

To get to each house, Santa will travel in style in a minibus, kitted out in festive decorations, with Christmas songs playing.

Families living in the M8 area - which covers Crumpsall and Cheetham Hill- can nominate a deserving child under 13 by emailing Rainbow Surprise at bookings@rainbowsurprise.com.

Places are already filling up fast.

This is the second year that Rainbow Surprise is hosting the 'Santa Surprise'.

The organisation first held the event in December 2020, when local lockdown restrictions were in place.

Last year, 30 children in Crumpsall were surprised by Santa on their doorstep and given a Christmas present.

Speaking to the M.E.N., Shakar Hussain, Chair of Rainbow Surprise, said: "The Santa Surprise is going to be really exciting.

"This year, we have increased it to 50 kids.

" We only made the announcement about two days ago and our spaces are almost full because we have been bombarded with emails and nominations from people referring their children and neighbours' children.

"It was very popular l ast year. The children were really, really surprised.

"The faces of the children when they saw Santa knocking on their door, with all these wrapped up gifts, some of them were shocked and didn’t know what to say.

"Some of the kids were screaming and shouting and saying “we're really happy!”

"Due to Covid, everyone has been missing out on quite a lot of things, especially kids, so we thought it would be nice to do this again."

Rainbow Surprise was co-founded by Shakar and his wife, Shabnam, about nine years ago, after they realised there was a demand for free activities for families in the Crumpsall area.

So they formed their own community group and began putting on events like family fun days.

Rainbow Surprise has now expanded to include a children's play scheme and a food bank, which prepares around 200 food parcels a week.

Also on offer are community bazaars, musical festivals and classes such as beauty therapy and Bhangracise dance fitness.

The organisation has around 30 volunteers who help with the community projects and deliver food parcels.

To nominate a child for a 'Santa Surprise', an adult should email at bookings@rainbowsurprise.com with their contact details and the name, age and gender of the child, as well as a reason for nomination.

Nominations should be sent in by Sunday 12th December.

Rainbow Surprise is based at Crumpsall Community Hall on Cleveland Road in Manchester.
