The traditional Santa rally is well and truly on - the FTSE 100 is now up 40 points on the day, a rise of 0.7%.
That has taken the index to 5,553, threatening to produce a third consecutive day of gains.
The Dow Jones, meanwhile, looks like opening up too.
Dow Jones futures are indicating a gain of 22 points, while the S&P is expected to be up 3.4 points at the open.
