'Santa Paws' delivers treat-filled stockings to dogs and cats at Scots shelter

Santa 'Paws' made a special stop at a Scots cat and dog shelter to deliver toys and treats to it's adorable residents.

St Nicholas visited Mrs Murray's Home for Stray Dogs and Cats in Aberdeen to make sure the stray animals weren't forgotten about on December 25.

Every year Santa visits the animals before they tuck into a big Christmas dinner.

In sweet pictures from the shelter, Santa can be seen stopping by each animals' enclosure with a stocking full of goodies and some tasty treats.

Laura Frackowiak, a cattery assistant at the home, was working at the home on Christmas Day with around 30 dogs and 12 cats .

Laura told the Record: "The animals are like our own family so we've always given them their Christmas dinners and their presents and everything.

"Santa brings all the animals a stocking filled with treats and toys.

"They all get a nice new cosy bed, blankets and a nice big fluffy soft toy. The cats get the same and some cat nip toys as well."

Laura, 37, has worked at Mrs Murray's cat and dog home for 15 years and says they have always made sure the animals get to enjoy Christmas too.

Now on social media, staff are able to keep followers updated with how the pups and cats are doing over the festive period.

And it's become something of a tradition, with workers coming in each Christmas Day and Boxing Day to spend time with the animals and feed them their dinners.

Laura added: "We came up with the idea a long time ago. It was before we even had social media but now that we have that a lot more people are aware that we do it.

"A wider audience can see it now which is nice because people feel sorry for the animals being in kennels and catteries over Christmas, but they can see we are trying to make it as nice as possible for them.

"We are still in working when everyone else is celebrating Christmas.

"When the staff come in we open the presents with them. Some of the dogs can open the presents themselves and others need a bit of a hand.

"Then they all get their Christmas dinners. The cats get chicken, ham and some smoked salmon and the dogs get chicken, ham, sausages, Yorkshire puddings and some veg and gravy.

"We are closed to the public so we get to spend more time with the animals. It's good fun, there's good morale so the shift goes quite quickly.

"It's always a big clean up on Boxing Day!"
