Santa Claus appears on This Morning to claim he's immune to COVID and assure he can deliver presents

Santa Claus has put millions of children's minds at rest by claiming he is immune from COVID and it will be business as usual when it comes to present deliveries this Christmas.

The big man in red appeared live on This Morning on Thursday, direct from his home in the North Pole and shut down concerns that he'll be out of action this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

His interview with Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby came after a concerned British youngster wrote to Prime Minister Boris Johnson to ask if Santa was still able to come this year with all the restrictions in place, adding that his family would make sure there was hand sanitizer next to the mince pies they'll put out for them.

The PM replied to assure that Santa would of course be allowed to go about his festive duties in his "usually responsible manner" but This Morning went one better by getting a response from the man himself.

Revealing he was now 1,7506 years old, he told the presenting duo he was immune from COVID-19 because he had "Santa-bodies" so people didn't need to worry about him at Christmas.

He added that he and his elves in the North Pole had always used Santa-tizer and then asked Holly if she'd been a good girl, to which she replied: "There have been moments, but it's been a difficult year."

Offering her a pointer on how to cement her place on the Nice List, he added: "All I'll say is drink in moderation!"

Speaking to children watching, Santa said: "I know there are some families who can't be together. I wish there was something I could do but, just try and make the best of it and celebrate everything.

"Things are tough in the moment in the world. All i can say is well done to the children and most of the grown ups!"

Ending his chat, Santa did appeal for people to make their wish lists "a little shorter" this year, saying there hasn't been much chance to get hold of materials to make toys.
