Santa babies delivered to 'delighted' Scots families for Christmas

Tiny Ayda Nicola May Blackwood was Scotland’s first Christmas baby .

Ayda quickly got into the spirit with a Santa costume after taking her first breaths at 12.43am at Ayrshire Maternity Unit , tipping the scales at 7lb 2oz.

Mum Lynsey Rooney and father John Blackwood were delighted at the early festive delight.

Early bird Elena Moir surprised mum and dad Jodie and Neil, from Aberdeenshire, by popping out a day early.

Jodie, 29, said: “She arrived at 1am on the dot.”

Elena, who weighed in at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital at 8lb and 11 and a quarter ounces was actually due to be a Boxing Day baby. Dad Neil, 37, said: “You can’t plan these things.”

Jodie said she was looking forward to heading home to Insch to introduce Elena to 18-month-old Finn and toast her with a well-earned glass of prosecco.

Clocking in a little later was Oliver Crispim, who made an appearance at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary at 1.35am to the joy of mother Ana, and Zbigniew Kazimerczuk.

Both parents, from Edinburgh, are “delighted” by Oliver’s arrival.

Over in Tayside, Jacob Alexander Clark entered the world at the home of parents Kevin Clark and Louise Fairweather in St Cyrus. Jacob was born at 1.13am and weighing 8lbs 6oz.

Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital welcomed two yuletide arrivals, just seven minutes apart.

Nicole Flannigan, 20, gave birth to ittle Harry, who weighed a healthy 8lbs 8oz at 5.15am. She and dad Harry Robertson, 20, were delighted at their festive gift.

Meanwhile, Samantha and Craig McCulloch, of Eaglesham, were introduced to their little boy at 5.22am, and were taking some time to decide his name. He weighed 6lbs 9oz.

Grangemouth native Lisa O’Donnell also took delivery of her own Christmas miracle at 4.52am on Wednesday at Forth Valley Hospital in Larbert. She is also taking her time to come up with a name for her daughter, who weighed 8lb 5oz.
