Sane, Mendy, Fernandinho - Latest Man City injury news and expected return dates

Pep Guardiola will be able to call upon Fernandinho for the visit of Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday.

Fernandinho has missed both of Manchester City's games this season after returning late for pre-season following the Copa America.

Although the record signing of Rodri has softened the blow for Guardiola, the manager will be no doubt pleased to have Fernandinho available following two weeks of training without picking up any new issues.

Likewise, Joao Cancelo is fit after joining three days before the new season started. The Portuguese right-back was an unused substitute against West Ham on the opening day.

However, the Tottenham game will come too soon for Benjamin Mendy, who continues his recovery from knee surgery.

Guardiola explained how City will give the Frenchman as long as possible to return to full fitness, saying: "What I want from Mendy is for him to be fit. To be available for training sessions every week. He’s had almost two years out and he needs to play. The first target is be fit rather than to play. To train regularly for a month then he has a chance to play."

Mendy returned to training at the start of the season, so could only be a fortnight away from a return at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Leroy Sane will undergo surgery this weekend, later than originally planned. Sane damaged his ACL in his knee in the Community Shield win against Liverpool, and is expected to be out until at least the new year.
