Sandy Row attack sees man beaten with pole

The police have launched an investigation after a man was beaten with a pole in the Sandy Row area.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after the report of an assault in South Belfast in the early hours of Saturday, September 25.

The PSNI says a report was received at 12:30am that a man had been assaulted by another man in the area of the Donegall Road junction with Sandy Row.

Detective Constable Beattie said: “It was reported that the man was beaten with a pole before the suspect made off on foot down Sandy Row and in the direction of Stroud Street.

“The victim, aged in his twenties, required hospital treatment for serious injuries.

“The suspect is described as being approximately 6’ tall and of average build. He was described as wearing a dark-coloured, hooded tracksuit.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would ask anyone who was in the area and saw anything, or who may have dashcam or other footage to contact us on 101 quoting reference 55 of 26/09/21.”

The police added that people can also submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport.

They can can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org, police say.
