Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Monday there aren't any other moves "in the works" with the Aug. 31 waiver deadline a little more than a week away.
The Mets had a busy weekend, trading Curtis Granderson to the Dodgers for minor-league pitcher Jacob Rhame on Friday and allowing catcher Rene Rivera to jolt to the world champion Cubs on a straight waiver claim Saturday.
Sources told Newsday on Sunday that trade interest in infielder Asdrubal Cabrera has picked up, but Alderson said that nothing was imminent on that front.
"There's another week or so between now and the Aug. 31 deadline for players to be on a playoff roster. So, anything can happen," Alderson said while speaking with reporters at the Mets' Military Softball Classic at Citi Field on Monday morning. "As of right now, there's nothing in the works."
Granderson, who was in his fourth season with the Mets, has already homered with the Dodgers and was showered with well-wishes from teammates and fans alike after his late-night departure on Friday.
"That was probably the most difficult transaction here at the deadline, simply because he's been here for almost four years, and more importantly because of the contributions he made on the field, in the clubhouse and in the community," Alderson said of Granderson. "He's just a first-rate individual and somebody who represented the Mets so well over the last four years. It's really hard to let him go."
In Rhame, the Mets hope they have found themselves another hard-throwing reliever to shore up their shaky bullpen.
A sixth-round selection in the 2013 draft, Rhame was 0-2 with two saves and a 4.31 ERA for Triple-A Oklahoma City in the Pacific Coast League. The Mets assigned him to Triple-A Las Vegas.
"Like a number of young players we got, he's a right-handed pitcher who throws hard," Alderson said. "He's close to major-league ready. Hopefully, we'll see him either in September or spring training. We're very happy we got him."
Alderson said that another hard-throwing righty, starter Noah Syndergaard, is making progress in his rehab from a partially torn lat muscle suffered in April, but no rehab assignment is currently scheduled.
"He's on track, but we're being careful with any rehab assignment, so that's still not currently scheduled," Alderson said, "but we're making good progress."
