Sands for Evening Standard? Rugby's Robshaw is on the ball

Sarah Sands's hopes of becoming the next editor of the Evening Standard received what appeared to unlikely backing from new England rugger captain, back row Chris Robshaw on the Twitter machine this morning. "Good luck to Sarah Sands for the Standard, its got to be," Robshaw observed, showing also a need for a little editing himself. Some say that Robshaw is an acute judge of the inky trade, who saw parallels between the uncertain position of the brilliant England coach Stuart Lancaster, not yet confirmed in his job, and Sands, not yet confirmed at the top of the London daily. Others, of a more sceptical cast of mind, observe a family connection: Robshaw was best man at the marriage of her son Henry to Anna Palys a couple of years ago. Still, you got to take support from whenever you can get it, and backing from a flanker seems like a decent place to start.
