Sandra Redknapp reveals Harry has 'never changed a nappy in his life' and missed son's birth

He's the doting family man who won the hearts of the nation during his stint on I'm A Celebrity back in 2018.

But Harry Redknapp's wife Sandra, 75, has revealed he has "never changed a nappy in his life" - and "wouldn't know where to start" if son Jamie, 49, asked him to help with his 10-month-old boy Raphael.

In their joint memoir, When Harry Met Sandra, the couple tell stories from their son Mark, 52, and Jamie's childhood and how the former West Ham manager ended up missing his eldest boy's birth.

Having miscarried before falling pregnant with Mark, the mother-of-two was understandably anxious right up until labour.

Sandra recalls: "I am fed up with being pregnant,' I said to Harry as my due date approached... I felt guilty for feeling so miserable after everything I had been through with the miscarriage, but I wasn’t enjoying my pregnancy."

Sandra was two weeks overdue and felt like it "went on forever".

"Harry wasn’t at the birth. In those days, if your wife went into labour and you were training or you had a match, you went to training or played the match," she says.

"The governor would get a phone call and the player would be told at half-time or after the match that their baby had been born.

"I remember Harry telling me about one player who wasn’t going to play because his wife was having a baby and there was uproar in the team. It was totally unheard of."

And when it came to daddy duties, Harry ruled himself out of changing the boys' nappies.

"Harry’s never changed a nappy in his life – not for Mark or Jamie or the grandchildren – he wouldn’t know where to start and he would probably only make a mess," Sandra says.

"But that was what the men did, they went to work, they came home and their wives looked after the children and the home."

But while Harry avoided the nappy changing jobs, he played a pivotal role in his sons' life with both of his boys going on to have careers in football.

The football manager appears to have had his comeuppance for his nappy avoiding during his stint on I'm A Celebrity as he was tasked with clearing out the Dunny.

Harry was favoured out of the other stars as he had lost his sense of smell in a horrific car crash in 1990 in Rome.

When Harry Met Sandra is out on Thursday (September 29), £20, published by Mirror Books
