Sandals Resorts offers guests free Covid-19 tests before they fly home

Luxury Caribbean resorts firm Sandals will be offering free Covid-19 tests for guests who require proof of a negative result before they fly home.

Travel restrictions in the pandemic have seen most countries, including the UK, introducing new rules which require any arrivals to have proof of a negative Covid-19 test, taken up to 72 hours before their departure.

Of course finding where you can obtain a test and then ensuring you get one done in time can be an extra stress for holidaymakers - but Sandals is making it easier by offering on-site tests.

The brand says that tests will "be conducted by certified medical professionals", with appointments offered at times that won't cause too much disruption to people's holidays. Tests will be done within 72 hours of their guests' departure, and the company says that results will be available within 24 hours.

It's not just Sandals resorts which will offer the service - Beaches resorts will also be offering the tests.

Lockdowns in England, Scotland and Wales currently include a ban on international travel, with new rules in place that include a Covid-19 test requirement. It's currently illegal to travel abroad for leisure purposes.

With Sandals' resorts in the Caribbean, a trip isn't on the cards for Brits right now, but the company says it is looking to the future and that the new testing is part of "proactive steps for when customers are able to return to the islands".

The service is part of the wider Sandals Platinum Protocols of Cleanliness programme.

Adam Stewart, Executive Chairman of Sandals Resorts International, said: "Through the expansion of our Platinum Protocols of Cleanliness, we are continuing to ensure our guests' health and safety are our number one priority. We are dedicated to providing peace of mind for all our guests as we follow the latest developments in real-time, to safeguard their experience, so that they can always travel to our resorts with confidence."
