Sand will be free for PMAY beneficiaries: Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan

BHOPAL: Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Monday that the sand policy will be changed to provide sand free of cost to beneficiaries of ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana’ for building houses.

He further announced that forest committees will now auction tendu leaves and distribute dividends among tribals.

Addressing foundation laying ceremonies for projects at Chitrangi in Singrauli district, Chouhan said that the state government is committed for upliftment of the poor sections of society along with the all-round development of the state.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is being run for every poor family of the state to have their own house, he said. In view of the problem of sand used in construction of houses for the scheme, sand policy will be changed soon and sand will be given free of cost to the housing beneficiaries to build their own house.

Chouhan laid the foundation stone of construction works of 325 tap water schemes under ‘Jal Jeevan Yojna’ by performing bhoomi pujan. The total cost of these cluster water schemes being made under Jal Jeevan Mission is Rs 1663 crore.

Chouhan also gave away benefits to people under Ujjwala Yojana, Livelihood Mission and village industries department. The chief minister said that Singrauli district including Chitrangi is being given the gift of water schemes through the Jal Jeevan Mission.

The chief minister also dedicated four buildings to the public, costing over Rs 17 crore. It includes Jagannath Singh Memorial College building, district education and training institute building Baidan, government college building Sarai and government higher secondary school building Bardi.

Chouhan said that along with BA, BSc and B Com courses will also be conducted in the college from the next session. The sub-tehsil office will be made in Dudhmania if required.
