Sanctuary on drift ice

Steller's sea eagles flapping their distinctive black-and-white wings swoop down one after another on drift ice off the town of Rausu on the Shiretoko Peninsula in Hokkaido. The activities of Steller's and white-tailed eagles, both designated national natural treasures, are a seasonal attraction for visitors keen to watch and photograph them from sightseeing ships.
