Sancho, Fernandes, Bailly, Lindelof - Manchester United injury news and possible return dates

Manchester United will be eager to put the disappointment of their FA Cup exit at the hands of Middlesbrough behind them as they return to Premier League action on Tuesday.

United make the trip to Turf Moor as they look to strengthen their hold on fourth place against Burnley, who lie bottom of the table.

With just the Champions League offering any hope of silverware this season, the race for the top four takes on added significance for United as they look to salvage something from a dismal season.

There was some good news for them on Friday though as Paul Pogba, Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka made their returns from injury to feature in the squad, and they could have more back on Tuesday.

Here’s the latest on the injury front for United.

Jadon Sancho

The forward made a good impression on his return to the side, scoring United’s only goal of the night on Friday.

There was some concern over his fitness though when he had to be brought off in extra time, having not featured in the games leading up to the international break.

Ralf Rangnick though has confirmed Sancho’s substitution was purely down to tiredness, and he should be fit to face Burnley on Tuesday.

Expected return date: February 8

Bruno Fernandes

Rangnick revealed after Friday’s game that Fernandes had been suffering from a back problem prior to kick-off.

The Portuguese managed to play though, taking in the full 120 minutes of normal and extra time before scoring the penalty shootout.

He’s also expected to be fit for Tuesday’s return to league action.

Expected return date: February 8

Eric Bailly

Bailly returned from the Africa Cup of Nations carrying a knock which ruled him out of contention for the cup tie on Friday.

Rangnick confirmed the 27-year-old had “some problems” with his ankle, although he could make his return to the squad for Tuesday’s game.

Possible return date: February 8

Victor Lindelof

Lindelof also missed the tie against Middlesbrough having been suffering from illness during the week leading up to the game.

Much will depend on whether he’s healthy enough to return to training before Tuesday’s game, but he’s another who will be expected to be in contention for Burnley.

Possible return date: February 8
