Latest Manchester United injury news and expected return dates

Manchester United got their Premier League campaign off to a great start after thrashing Chelsea 4-0 at Old Trafford.

It was an impressive display, with goals coming from Marcus Rashford who scored two, Anthony Martial and Daniel James.

They then went to Wolves and secured a 1-1 draw although had the chance to leave with all three points but Paul Pogba missed a penalty.

United face Crystal Palace and Southampton before the end of August, which is then followed by an international break.

After a strenuous pre-season which saw United travel around the world and play six friendlies they have done well to keep the injury countdown so far and it can only be hoped it stays that way.

United' current injury/fitness list:

Eric Bailly

The centre-back has been beset by injury problems and missed the end of last season after picking up an injury against Chelsea.

Bailly returned and impressed in pre-season but twisted his knee in the victory over Tottenham and left the stadium in Shanghai on crutches.

The injury was worse than first feared and Bailly is expected to spend four to five months on the sidelines.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: "He's had an operation and he'll miss the best part of four or five months, I would think. Hopefully we'll get him back around Christmas."

Alexis Sanchez

The winger had a busy summer as he shone in the Copa America and helped his native Chile to a fourth place finish.

Sanchez did pick up a hamstring injury in the third place play-off defeat to Argentina but has recovered and is back in training, though he is still behind match fitness.

Solskjaer said: "Alexis has come in and trained well. Of course, he's four or five weeks behind the boys and he's not played apart from a one behind-closed-doors [friendly] here."

Sanchez is understood to have played another behind-closed-doors fixture this week against Sheffield United.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

The Dutch utility man picked up a serious knee injury towards the end of last season.

He suffered ligament damage while on loan at Fulham and as a result didn't travel to Australasia with the rest of the squad.

Fosu-Mensah has been rehabilitating hard all summer but isn't expected to be back fit until well into the season.
