Large crowds of people are visiting the royal crematorium of King Bhumibol Adulyadej at Sanam Luang on the final day it is open to the public.

A constant flow of people were passing five screening checkpoints set up around Sanam Luang since early morning to catch a closer glimpse of the magnificent royal crematorum.

Almost 10,000 visitors had entered the site by 9am on Sunday. People are allowed to view the crematorium and associated exhibition until 10pm today. There will be a khon (masked dance performance) in front of the Phra Thinang Songtham pavilion at 7pm, Thai media reported.

Public viewing of the royal crematorium of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the associated exhibition at Sanam Luang was originally set for Nov 2-30.

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun later gave permission for the exhibition to be extended to Dec 31, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The government committee that organised the exhibition said a total of 103,337 people entered the exhibition venue on Saturday. The number of visitors stood at 3,895,509 over the 59 days from Nov 2 to Dec 30.

At least 100,000 people are expected to view the royal cremation today.
