San Jose police fatally shoot 2 men in less than 24 hours who were wanted in a homicide

Aug. 18--Two men wanted in a fatal shooting were killed by San Jose police in separate incidents within 24 hours of each other.

The men were linked to the Aug. 13 shooting death of Christopher Maxwell Wrenn, 38, of San Jose, said Sgt. Enrique Garcia of the San Jose Police Department.

Surveillance video showed the men terrorizing Wrenn before he was shot, Garcia said. Police, who have not identified the men, were looking for a third suspect.

San Jose officers have been involved in eight shooting this year; five have been fatal. In 2014, San Jose police were involved in five shootings, and two were fatal.

The latest incidents began at 10:10 p.m. Sunday when police shot and killed one of the suspects outside a laundromat at a strip mall in the 3100 block of Senter Road. The man reached for a handgun and two officers fired their weapons, police said.

The man died at the scene.

Then on Monday, drama unfolded about 6:54 p.m. when police began following a man driving a vehicle wanted in connection with Wrenn's killing, KNTV reported.

During the pursuit, the man crashed in the area of Kirkhaven Court at Stoneyhaven Way. A woman also was inside the vehicle.

As the man ran from the vehicle, he reached for his waistband, Garcia said. Police shot and killed the man.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, Garcia said. The woman's condition was unknown.

The man was planning to a kill the woman because she had details about him and two other suspects in connection with Wrenn's death, KNTV reported.

Police said they found Wrenn wounded Aug. 13 in an office building in the 1800 block of Lundy Avenue. Suffering from at least one gunshot wound, he was taken to a hospital, where he died.
