San Jose Earthquakes starlet addresses “cool feeling” amid links with Newcastle United and Bayern Munich

USMNT prospect Cade Cowell admits he is flattered following the recent speculation that has linked him with some of Europe's top clubs following his strong showing at the U20 World Cup.

Cowell already has over 100 senior appearances under his belt, having made his debut for the San Jose Earthquakes in 2020 at the tender age of 16 years and 150 days. Now 19-years-old, the teenage forward is already a full-fledged US international and has six caps to his name following a steady rise to prominence.

His first strike for the Stars and Stripes came against Trinidad and Tobago in the CONCACAF Gold Cup at the start of the month and was the latest achievement in his fledgling career, building on his three goals earlier in the summer for the United States U-20s team in the World Cup in Argentina.

Now, clubs from across Europe are keeping an eye on the striker's availability, according to GOAL. They report that Champions League qualifiers Newcastle United are interested in his services, alongside continental heavyweights such as Bayern Munich, Juventus and AC Milan.

The teenager did admit that the speculation surrounding the interest of some of Europe's most reputable clubs is something that he is embracing. Speaking to The Sporting News Cowell appeared to be in humble mood and explained that he was enjoying the recognition.

He said: "To know some pretty big teams are watching is a cool feeling, it is for sure. Growing up you have no idea if you're going to make it or not, so just to see it is a really good feeling."

At the moment, however, the Californian marksman does appear to remain focused on gaining as much experience at the top level as possible, especially while he is still developing as a player. Acknowledging that game-time is of paramount importance to him at the moment, he added: "Right now, maturity-wise, physically, and game-wise, I feel like I'm ready.

"Playing games is the best option, in my opinion. I still have so much room to develop, and I need to prioritize that. You just need reps, there's nothing that compares to playing.

"I could go practice on a grass field for two years straight, and it just doesn't compare to the games. It's a different feeling. In my opinion, that's what's best for me."

Cowell has made 13 appearances for Quakes in MLS far this term and has failed to build upon his 11 previous strikes at senior level this season but has notched three assists. His employers currently sit in sixth place in the Western Conference standings after 21 rounds played.
