Samurai sword seized after police stop car in Belfast

A samurai sword has been seized from a car in East Belfast after a man was attacked with a similar weapon, police say.

The vehicle was stopped following an attack in Larne in which a man suffered injuries, Belfast Live reports.

Police investigating the incident say they have arrested two males following “an altercation in the Glynn Road area of Larne this afternoon, Sunday 02 June”.

A police spokesman added: “Shortly after 12.20pm police received a report that a man armed with a sword was assaulting another man on Glynn Road.

“A 38 year old male sustained a number of minor injuries to his body as a result of the assault. The suspect had made off in a black coloured car before the arrival of police.

“A car matching the description was stopped by police in East Belfast some time later and a 32-year-old male arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, common assault, theft and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.

“A samurai sword was also recovered from the car. A 27-year-old male who was driving the car was arrested on suspicion of driving when unfit through drink or drugs.”

Both males, police say, remain in custody at this time.
