Samsung just added a big free upgrade to their 2025 TVs — here’s what you can do now

Samsung Perplexity app.

Samsung's 2025 TV lineup just received a major AI upgrade with the addition of a new Perplexity app available directly on the TV.

The Perplexity app allows users to dive into all of the awesome AI-powered efficiencies it provides. These include asking questions about movies or shows, as well as engaging with one of the best AI chatbots in various ways. The possibilities are practically endless.

However, Perplexity's new app will only be available on 2025 Samsung TV models. It will eventually find a home on older sets per their scheduled Tizen OS upgrade later this year, though it's unclear when 2024 or 2023 models might receive this update.

Perplexity arrives on Samsung TVs

The new Perplexity AI integration is part of Samsung's Vision AI platform, with Samsung primarily focusing on incorporating more AI features into its screens. Samsung has partnered with Perplexity to deliver even more intelligent AI-powered answers and recommendations, enhancing the Tizen experience.

Like other AI chatbots and algorithms, such as ChatGPT and Gemini, Perplexity has contextual awareness, allowing it to follow conversations and dive deep into a variety of topics. Answers are offered via credible sources gathered in real-time, meaning you can ask Perplexity AI some complex queries and get relatively good results.

Some examples Samsung provides include asking the chatbot to find movies directed by the Russo Brothers, plan a vacation, or design a fantasy football lineup. However, at this time, it's unclear how far the integration goes. It's unclear if you can ask the AI more direct questions about what's on the screen, for instance, "What jacket is Tom Cruise wearing in 'Mission Impossible'?"

Competing AI integrations, like Amazon's Alexa+ and Google's Gemini, have these capabilities, so it makes sense that Perplexity would have similar functionality. We'll just have to test these capabilities for ourselves on Samsung sets.

The best part about the integration is a free 12-month subscription to Perplexity Pro. To get it, open the new Perplexity app on your Samsung TV and scan the QR code that appears on screen. Just remember that the app is only available on 2025 models and won't be coming to older sets until later this year.
