Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: design and display

- Z Flip 7 is just 6.5mm thick when unfolded
- Z Flip 7 has a redesigned cover screen
- Z Flip 7 has bigger 6.9-inch and 4.1-inch displays
- Z Flip 7 FE is basically identical to the Z Flip 6
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 has bigger screens than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, with a 6.9-inch 1080 x 2520 foldable main display (up from 6.7 inches), and a 4.1-inch 948 x 1048 cover screen (up from 3.4 inches).
That cover screen takes up almost all of the available space on that section of the phone, unlike with the Z Flip 6 where there’s a separate panel housing the cameras. And this year it has a 120Hz refresh rate too, up from 60Hz on the Z Flip 6’s cover screen. Both the foldable and cover screens are AMOLED too.
That new cover screen design is the most noticeable design upgrade, but the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 comes in at 75.2 / 85.5 / 13.7mm when folded and 75.2 / 166.7 / 6.5mm when unfolded, which makes it 0.4mm slimmer than the Galaxy Z Flip 6 when unfolded and 1.2mm thinner when folded.
It also has a new Armor FlexHinge for increased durability, comes in at 188g, and – just like the previous model – has an Armor Aluminum frame and uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 also has an IP48 rating, which is the same as its predecessor, and means it can be submerged up to 1.5 meters deep in water for up to 30 minutes, but Samsung claims there’s tighter waterproofing on the circuitry this year because of the smaller bezels.
As for colors, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 is available in Blue Shadow, Jet Black, Coral Red, and Mint, the last of those being exclusive to Samsung's online store.
There’s less to say about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE as this is basically identical design-wise to the Galaxy Z Flip 6, with a 6.7-inch 120Hz 1080 x 2640 foldable screen, a 3.4-inch 60Hz 720 x 748 cover screen, and the same weight and dimensions as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6. This also has an IP48 rating, like the Z Flip 6 and Z Flip 7, and it's available in a choice of black or white.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: cameras

- Both phones have 50MP main and 12MP ultra-wide cameras
- Both have a 10MP front-facing camera
- Same cameras as last year
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 has a 50MP f/1.8 main camera, a 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide (with a 123-degree field of view), and a 10MP f/2.2 front-facing camera. Those cameras are all the same specs as its predecessor, so there's no real upgrade to the camera hardware.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE also has these camera specs, so you’re not sacrificing on the photography side by opting for the cheaper phone.
Both phones feature various camera modes and AI options, such as the Z Flip 7's Enhanced Nightography mode, which improves low-light photos, and Dual Preview, which allows both the photographer and the subject to see the photo composition before it's taken.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: performance and software

- Z Flip 7 has an Exynos 2500 chipset and 12GB of RAM
- Z Flip 7 FE has an Exynos 2400 and 8GB of RAM
- Z Flip 7 has a 4,300mAh battery, FE has a 4,000mAh one
Just as leaks suggested, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 has an Exynos 2500 chipset. This is a high-end chipset but it’s notably different – and quite possibly worse – than the Snapdragon 8 Elite found in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Samsung Galaxy S25 series.
That’s paired with 12GB of RAM, and in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE you instead get a less capable Exynos 2400 chipset (found in the Samsung Galaxy S24 in some regions) and 8GB of RAM.
For battery, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 has been boosted from the 4,000mAh of its predecessor to 4,300mAh, which is impressive given that it’s also a slimmer phone. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE though does stick with a 4,000mAh cell, and both of these new phones can charge at up to 25W when wired, and they also support wireless and reverse wireless charging.
And for software, both the Z Flip 7 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE run One UI 8, which is Samsung’s version of Android 16.
This includes various AI and foldable-specific features, such as access to Gemini Live on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7’s cover screen.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: early verdict

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 doesn’t look like a huge improvement on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, but with bigger screens, a slimmer, more stylish design, and a larger battery – not to mention a more powerful chipset – this could still be a compelling handset.
A lot of questions remain – such as how its Exynos 2500 chipset will compare to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, and how much difference the boosted battery capacity will make – but on paper, at least, this sounds like a promising device.
It’s perhaps less exciting and less upgraded than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, but it’s also a lot more affordable, which could make the Galaxy Z Flip 7 a popular option.
As for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, this doesn’t seem too different from the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, so it might only really have its relatively low price going for it.
