Samsung Galaxy Note 10 leak reveals release date for iPhone rival

Renders of the Galaxy Note 10 based on leaked and expected specs of the new Samsung smartphone ( OnLeaks/ PriceBaba )

Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Note 10 in less than two months, according to a new report.

The plus-sized flagship smartphone will be revealed at the Unpacked event in New York on 7 August, Cnet reported.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, the tech publication said the event will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn – the same venue that held the launch of the Galaxy Note 9.

At the unveiling of the predecessor to the Galaxy Note 10, Samsung described it as "the world's most advanced smartphone".

Capable of holding more than a terabyte of data and packed with 8GB of RAM, the smartphone-tablet hybrid featured specs capable of competing against most modern laptops.

Samsung and other major smartphone manufacturers typically do not comment on unreleased products, however Google took the unusual step of revealing an image of its forthcoming Pixel 4 phone.

Google's flagship is not expected to launch for several months. But in a post to Twitter, the technology giant revealed several key specs and features of the smartphone.

The unexpected revelation was greeted with a mix of confusion and excitement, with some speculating that Google had made the move in an attempt to pre-empt the inevitable leaks that have plagued the smartphone industry in recent years.

Ahead of the Galaxy Note 9 launch last August, a slew of leaks meant Samsung had very little to reveal that the world didn't already know.

Leaks and rumours surrounding the Galaxy Note 10 suggest the South Korean electronics firm will opt for two different sizes, with one being 5G enabled.

The camera setup on the rear of the device will also be adjusted, featuing three lenses aligned vertically instead of horizontally.
