Samsung FINALLY fixes Galaxy Fold issue - but new launch date remains a mystery

In April, Samsung ’s worst nightmare came true, after several journalists discovered screen issues in its Galaxy Fold smartphone - just weeks before it was due to launch.

Reporters from media outlets including The Verge, CNBC and Bloomberg encountered problems during hands-on sessions with the device, including broken and bulging screens.

While the Galaxy Fold was originally scheduled to go on sale on May 3, Samsung was forced to push back the launch as it scrambled to fix the flaws.

Now, a report by Bloomberg claims that Samsung has finally completed the redesign of its foldable smartphone.

The report quotes ‘people familiar with the matter’ and claims that ‘Samsung Electronics Co. has completed a two-month redesign of the Galaxy Fold to fix embarrassing screen failures that forced its delay.’

According to the report, Samsung has ‘stretched the protective film to wrap around the entire screen and flow into the outer bezels so it would be impossible to peel off by hand’.

The tech giant is also reported to have re-engineered the phone’s hinge to help stretch the film further.

While the report claims that the issue has been resolved, it remains unclear when Samsung will begin shipping the new smartphone.

Samsung is hosting an ‘Unpacked’ event on August 7 where it’s expected to launch its Note 10 smartphone, but the report suggests that it’s unlikely the updated Fold will also be revealed on this date.

It added: “The company is unlikely to unveil its re-upholstered Galaxy Fold during an Aug. 7 ‘Unpack”’event in New York for the new flagship Note 10 phone.”
