Samson Ebukam may miss Raiders practices due to hamstring tightness

The Los Angeles Rams have made their way up to Napa for a pair of joint practices with the Oakland Raiders on Wednesday and Thursday. It’s the second team the Rams will practice after spending two days with the Chargers last week.

Sean McVay puts a lot of value in joint practices, essentially using them to replace preseason games for proven veterans. All of the notable players are expected to participate for the Rams in Napa, except for maybe one.

McVay said Samson Ebukam could be held out due to hamstring tightness. The Rams will be cautious with him at this point in the preseason.

“Everyone’s making the trip,” McVay said Tuesday. “There might be a couple guys (out), but nobody of note. Samson’s got some tightness in his hamstring. It remains to be seen if he ends up going or not, but we’ll err on being cautionary with him. So he would be the one main guy that you would maybe recognize if he’s not out there.”

Ebukam worked his way back from knee surgery this offseason, but he’s not dealing with hamstring tightness. He should be safe to make the 53-man roster, but his role has yet to be determined.

With Clay Matthews in the mix, Ebukam will likely be a backup to him and Dante Fowler Jr. at outside linebacker. Fortunately for him, the Rams don’t have much proven talent behind those two starters with Ogbonnia Okoronkwo also banged up and Justin Lawler undergoing foot surgery.
