Here's one for the IDM fans. Today's free sample pack is a collection of more than 200 glitchy textures: fuzzy, weird and abstract sounds that can be used to provide textural interest and timbral variation in electronic productions.
To create these sounds, we applied heavy digital processing to simple sound sources (noise, field recordings and other non-musical types) to create a selection of loops than spans everything from reverbed-out slabs to dry, visceral crackles and clicks.
Some of the source sounds were first processed in iZotope's RX9 running De-click and/or De-crackle, but outputting the noise (clicks/crackles) instead of the 'tidied-up' signal. This is a great source of transient material to feed into delays, reverbs, modulation and pitch shifting, which is what has happened here.
As well as other sources these sounds were processed with often long chains of effects, stripping out sustained elements, then adding reverb/delay to create new 'space', only to use bitcrushing, sample rate reduction or some form of distortion and noise reduction to reduce everything down to a new soup of crackles and pops... and then dousing in reverbs, delays and modulation with a healthy dose of pitch-shifting.
The four sets of loops (A-D) are derived from different processing chain setups, with C and D using some of the A and B loops as sources, pitching, reversing and otherwise mangling them before heavily wrangling them into a new form. You can loop them, layer them, slice them or run them through further effects to create even glitchier textures; the choice is yours.
What you need to know
Because they're royalty-free, you're welcome to use the samples in your music in any way you like - all we ask is that you don't re-distribute them.
