Sammy Watkins getting in extra training with WR guru Keith Williams

Just because the Kansas City Chiefs have a month to go until training camp doesn’t mean their work is finished in the interim.

Plenty of players have retreated to their own routines in an effort to continue to prepare their bodies for the rigors of the season. Sammy Watkins is training with former Nebraska assistant coach Keith Williams, who’s a renowned wide receivers coach.

Williams most recently coached the wide receivers for the San Antonio Commanders of the Alliance of American Football. Now he’s back to training receivers on his own, working with them on route running, footwork, hand-eye coordination and other skills.

Last offseason, Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill trained with Williams on improving certain aspects of his game. Now Hill’s teammate Watkins has taken the same route in hopes of improving his game.

It just so happens that Hill put up his best season as a professional after working with Williams. Sure, there are other factors in Hill’s success, like having the league MVP as his quarterback. However, it’s no coincidence that Watkins has gone to Williams in hopes of elevating his game. Williams has a strong reputation as a teacher and he’s helped many young athletes achieve their goals. With a little elbow grease, Watkins could be the next success story.
