Sammy Ameobi can 'cause problems' so don't write him off says Nottingham Forest legend

Sammy Ameobi is set to be Nottingham Forest's first summer signing when he arrives on a free transfer this week.

It's not the most exciting signing, a free from a team which finished bottom of the Championship, in Bolton, but let's not write him off before he kicks a ball for Forest.

Ameobi is a player who has caused teams problems over the years. He was a good player in a bad side from what I saw of Bolton last season.

It's not a big fee, or any fee in fact, so I don't think people should be too upset about it. Give the guy a chance.

Plenty of players have come to Forest without too much expectation and done well. Just look at Joe Lolley when he came from Huddersfield.

I don't think people expected what he has delivered, so let's see what Ameobi can do.

You can't judge what Forest do in the transfer window until the window closes.

Alan Hutton was the other player being linked over the weekend. That's a name we hear every season practically.

He had a loan spell here quite a few years ago and then it looked like he would sign last summer.

If he signs this summer then I wouldn't have a problem with that. He became a popular player at Aston Villa.

Even though he's a veteran, I would say he's a player who has improved over the years.

Don't forget, Villa fans didn't used to like him, but he won them over.

Yes, he's 34, but with the way the game is now, he's got a couple of seasons left in him you would imagine.

He got up and down the line for Villa last season so let's not write him off as being past it.

Of course we would like to see Forest sign players for massive fees like they did last summer, but it looks like that won't happen unless Martin O'Neill can ship players out.

The squad is massive and that's not really his fault, so let's see what he can do in the next few weeks to get rid of some of this dead wood.
