Rapper Yungmiqu, also known as Mihkku Laiti, founded the event in Utsjoki to share Sámi culture through music. He performs in Sámi, a language spoken by Europe’s only recognised Indigenous people.
Despite changing weather in the fells, audiences gathered late into the night under the midnight sun on 6 July. Performers from across Lapland took the stage, mixing rap, folk and even tango.
Held near the Arctic Ocean and just across the river from Norway, the festival offers a rare stage for Sámi voices in contemporary music.
