Samantha Jones will feature in ‘And Just Like That’ Season 2, says showrunner

Some of us couldn’t help but wonder about Samantha Jones.

“And Just Like That” showrunner Michael Patrick King told Variety Tuesday that the second season of the “Sex and the City” spinoff will most definitely feature more of Jones, who is played by Kim Cattrall, whose presence in Season 1 was limited to texting with former best pal Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker.

“To me, they had a great night and things became resolved,” King, 67, told the outlet about the end-of-season texting between the two. “Once Carrie let go of an old, old love, one of her current loves came back.”

“What comes first is the story for me,” King shared, noting that mindset was behind even agreeing to a second season of the polarizing HBO Max show. “If I know what they’re doing, then I can get excited about it.”

Despite the immense popularity of the Jones character, 65-year-old Cattrall and Parker, 57, have a yearslong feud — at least in the eyes of the British-born, Canadian-raised actress.

Golden Globe winner Cattrall last month elaborated on the reason she has zero intention of ever returning to the role for the new series — currently slated to hit the streamer next summer.

“It’s a great wisdom to know when enough is enough,” the “How I Met Your Father” actress told Variety. “I also didn’t want to compromise what the show was to me. The way forward seemed clear. ... Parts of her are with me. I played her, and I loved her. I felt ultimately protective of her.”

Cattrall noted that she “was never asked” to join “And Just Like That,” adding: “I made my feelings clear after the possible third movie [following those in 2008 and 2010], so I found out about it like everyone else did — on social media. ... The series is basically the third movie. That’s how creative it was.”

Noting a return to Samantha’s character “would never happen anyway,” Cattrall was asked whether that’s a definitive no.

“That’s a no,” she insisted. “It’s powerful to say no.”
