Samaje Perine is seizing his opportunity at Redskins OTAs

Organized Team Activities are a great time for young players to get their feet wet in the league, but also a big opportunity for overlooked players to prove themselves.

Arguably no player on the Washington Redskins is taking advantage of his opportunity quite like Samaje Perine.

Perine, who has struggled to find a consistent role in the Washington offense over the past couple of years, is turning heads in OTAs. Redskins coach Jay Gruden has said that Perine has been the most impressive so far, and it seems as if the third-year back could find a place on the 53-man roster, despite the incredible depth Washington has at the RB position.

“Perine has continued to get stronger and stronger in the weight room,” Gruden said, via Redskins.com. “He’s a powerful running back and he has not had the opportunities that he probably deserves or needs. But we just have to figure out a way to make the competition fair and play the best player, no matter who they are or where they’re from.”

While much of the RB depth chart is on the sidelines attempting to get healthy, a chasm has opened up for Perine to fill. If he is to continue the improvement that we have seen so far this year, there is a good chance he can sniff the field come fall.
