Sam Younger: MI6 chief's son dies in 'unexplained' crash on Scottish estate

Sam Younger, the son of MI6 chief Alex Younger has died after an “unexplained” crash at a Scottish estate.

There did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances around the death of 22-year-old, a Police Scotland spokesperson said.

The Edinburgh University student died “following an accident involving a motor vehicle on a private estate in Stirlingshire" on Saturday, a statement added.

“The family have provided that they wish privacy and space to remember and celebrate their wonderful son.

"The death is being treated as unexplained, however there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course, as is standard procedure.”

Mr Younger was formerly a pupil of the prestigious Dulwich College, where he played in its rugby team.

The Old Alleynians alumni group confirmed his death with “deep sadness” and said the crash happened in the early hours of the morning.

Mr Younger was a “selfless, big hearted, fun loving and committed Alleynian, and Old Alleynian”, a spokesperson said, adding: “We offer heartfelt condolences to Sam’s family and friends.”

His father has been the chief of MI6 since 2014 and has been in the service since 1991, serving in Afghanistan, the Middle East in Europe.
