Sam Walker was arrested at the gates of a prison just minutes after being released from the jail.
The 36-year-old, from Liverpool, was arrested and later charged by police on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker, making threats to kill and making threats to damage property.
According to Durham Constabulary, the charges related to an incident that occurred while Mr Walker was serving time at HMP Durham on March 15, 2020.
Following his arrest and charge, Mr Walker appeared at Teeside Magistrates Court on Tuesday and was remanded back into custody.
He will appear Durham Crown Court on June 17 over the offences.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Durham Constabulary, told the ECHO : "Samuel Walker was arrested at the gates of HMP Durham on his release.
"He was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker, making threats to kill and making threats to damage property which originated from an incident while he was in prison on March 15.
"He appeared at Teesside Magistrates Court today and was remanded in custody for a further hearing at Durham Crown Court on June 17."
