Sam Thompson says he 'trusts' Zara McDermott despite cheating scandal

Made in Chelsea star Sam Thompson has revealed that he and Zara McDermott have managed to move on from her cheating scandal last year.

The reality TV star has admitted that he now trusts the former Love Island star 'wholeheartedly' and that he sees a future with the 24-year-old beauty.

Sam told The Sun how he is 'not one to judge' and that 'people do make mistakes' when discussing his relationship with Zara.

"All the drama and stuff that happened not too long ago, I am now at an age where I can sit back and say I love this girl, I see a future with her and yes, people do make mistakes," the 29-year-old confessed to the publication.

"I do believe she wants to be a better person and learn from that. It comes down to me and what do I want.

The E4 star also revealed that he doesn't believe there to be any point in rekindling a romance if you don't fully trust or believe the other person.

"Now I wholeheartedly believe her," he continued.

"Over the years I have made so many mistakes but I like to think I have learned from them."

Sam went on to explain that if he had never been given a chance to rectify his own mistakes, he would be 'pretty annoyed', which swayed his decision to take the Australian-born babe back.

"So I wanted to give her a chance and it has worked wonders and now we are in a really really good place," the star explained.

"I sometimes wake up and go. Is this a dream? Do I still have a girlfriend after all the pranks I do?"

Sam then went on to declare that he is the one 'punching' in his relationship with the attractive reality TV star.

Sam and Zara's relationship woes provided dramatic scenes during one season of Made in Chelsea in 2020.

The pair were rocked after Sam discovered the former Love Island star had cheated on him - going on to call time on his 16-month relationship with the 24-year-old.

The cheating scandal was revealed during an episode of the reality TV series that aired on Monday, October 19 2020.

Although it was never officially revealed who Zara enjoyed a romance with behind Sam's back, the identity of the mystery man is said to be music industry boss Brahim Fouradi.

The Sun reported in 2020 that the affair occurred during the star's stint on X Factor : Celebrity in 2019.

Speaking at the time, a source told the newspaper: “She was spending increasing amounts of time with him backstage, and hanging around after hours. [Sam’s] devastated about how things have turned out.”

After discovering his girlfriend had been unfaithful, Sam did initially vow never to take the popular influencer back, despite admitting he still loved her.

However, following their split in August 2020, the couple have since reunited and rekindled their romance.

After getting back together with his ex, Sam said: “I believe in forgiveness. I understand the context – and I think in any walk of life you can’t move forward unless you forgive.

“Forgiveness allows you to heal. You can only heal when you forgive the other person and get over that.

“I would definitely say no matter what you should always try to forgive and you’ll feel better in yourself – it’s easier said than done but you’ve got to strive for that.”
