Sam Stubbs hails Notts County supporters in heartfelt 'sorry' message

Sam Stubbs thanked Notts County fans for their “unbelievable support” as he apologised for being unable to help keep them in the Football League.

The Magpies were relegated to non-league for the first time in their history at the weekend as they lost 3-1 at Swindon.

It was Stubbs’ last game for the club, having joined from Middlesbrough in January, and he will now return to the Championship club after the season ended.

But the son of former Everton centre-back, Alan, produced some excellent performances in the heart of the defence during his time at Meadow Lane.

However, the defender wished it had finished with a better outcome as he praised the club for the way they have managed him during his stay.

Writing on his Twitter account, Stubbs said: “A massive thankyou to everybody involved with @Official_NCFC.

“They have been absolutely brilliant with me and gave me the best chance to perform on the pitch.

"To the fans, we are so sorry we couldn’t stay up but thankyou for your unbelievable support over these few months.”
