Sam Slocombe keen to 'make a statement' after becoming Notts County's third signing

Notts County’s summer transfer business shows no signs of slowing down after their embargo was lifted by the National League earlier this week.

Neal Ardley, fresh from completing the signings of Ben Turner and Zoumana Bakayogo, has added experienced goalkeeper Sam Slocombe to his squad - and the keeper is keen to make an impression at his new club.

Slocombe arrives on a free transfer having left Bristol Rovers in the summer - and has made just short of 200 appearances across a career which has seen him play for the likes of Scunthorpe, Blackpool and Lincoln City.

The 31-year-old admits the chance to play for the Magpies was one he couldn't resist, and hopes that both he and his new club can make a statement over the coming weeks in their quest to make their stay in the National League as short as possible.

“It’s a great opportunity,” Slocombe told the Notts’ website.

“It’s a fantastic club with great infrastructure and history in a league that is difficult to get out of, but it’s a great chance for Notts County to take a step forward.

“Sometimes the backward steps, despite being not very nice to go through, can help build a platform to go on to the next level and that’s what I hope I can do as a player and we can do as a club with the squad that is put together.

“I’m hungry for the start of the season after not playing as much as I’d have liked to last year – I want to make a statement personally and hopefully we do that as a club, too.

“I’ve been training with Scunthorpe and Grimsby so I’ve had a full pre-season and I’m sure everyone else coming in has had the same and will be raring to go – it’ll just be a case of gelling together as a squad.”
