Sam Slocombe believes crunch dressing room talks have inspired Notts County

Sam Slocombe insists Notts County’s players  are refusing “to settle for a mediocre season”  and feels it has inspired their rise up the National League table.

The Magpies are currently eighth in the league after Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Dagenham and are hoping to climb into the play-off positions when they host Torquay this weekend.

Notts have lost just twice in their last 13 games which is a terrific record given the chaotic nature of the summer which saw the club sold just days before the season began.

Neal Ardley’s side lost two of their opening three games, but have  responded magnificently with hopes high they can continue their momentum.

And Slocombe said that has been helped by the players letting their feelings known after  they were beaten in the early stages of the campaign.

“Everyone is stepping up their game,” he said. “It’s intense and is working out brilliantly for us.

“Early in the campaign we had a conversation and the overriding thing that came out of it was that none of us want to be here for a mediocre season.

“Our recent form stems from hard work. The output of the lads in the last few games has been unbelievable and continuing that gives us the platform to do what we want to this season.

"Throughout the squad, the lads are enjoying the so-called horrible side of the game and that’s allowing us to play the attractive way we want to.”
