Sam Ryder issues Eurovision voting plea to viewers outside the UK ahead of 'unpredictable' final

Sam Ryder has issued a voting plea to fans a across Europe as he aims to pull off a shock win at Eurovision and bookies and fans still have no real idea just where he will finish on Saturday night.

Before he was even announced as the UK’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest, Sam was already known the world over, having a following of over 12 million on TikTok, after he became something of a lockdown sensation. And he’s relying on fans who aren’t in the UK to send some votes his way as he goes for glory in Saturday’s Eurovision final with his track Space Man.

While some fans are still trying not to be too optimistic about his chances, the Eurovision final running order has put Sam in a strong soothing, with him performing in 22nd position, after well tipped entries like ones from Norway’s Subwoolfer, Spain’s Chanel, favourites to win Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestr a and Sweden’s Cornelia Jakobs and before the ‘dark horse,’ Serbia.

On Friday night, Sam took part in the jury final, which saw all 25 countries in the Eurovision final perform for jurors from each participating nation. Their scores are the ones who will be read out by the announcers during the results section of Saturday’s final, before the televote points are revealed.

And, before he took to the stage on Friday evening, Sam made a passionate plea for support online, including TikTok where, by Saturday morning, the video had already had over 10 million views. The caption for the clip read: "1 day to go before I sing my head off in front of 200 million people. YOU CAN SUPPORT BY…downloading the @Eurovision app and then tomorrow night you can smash that voting button 20 times.”

Clarifying the fact that UK based viewers won’t be able to vote for him, Sam added: “ UK LEGENDS, you can’t vote for UK, but I hope you’ll be roaring along with me and telling your overseas pals to vote! Love ya, thank you millions.”
