Sam Mendes To Direct Four Separate Beatles Member Biopics

Sony Japan Mobility Show 2023, in Tokyo

Four separate feature films are in the works, each focusing on a different member of The Beatles - John, Paul, George, and Ringo. Director Sam Mendes plans to create these movies from each band member's perspective, with the narratives intersecting to tell the story of the iconic band's journey leading up to their breakup in 1970.

The life story and music rights for the scripted films have been granted by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of the late John Lennon and George Harrison. Sony Pictures Entertainment will finance and distribute all four films theatrically in 2027, promising an innovative and groundbreaking release strategy.

Musical biopics have been gaining popularity at the box office, with successful releases like 'Elvis' and 'Bob Marley: One Love.' Several other music legends are also set to have their stories told on the big screen, including Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, and the Bee Gees.

Sam Mendes will not only direct but also produce the films alongside Neal Street Productions. Apple Corps Limited, founded by The Beatles in 1968, will have executive producer Jeff Jones on board for the project. This marks the first time The Beatles have fully supported a scripted film about their journey.

The films aim to provide a unique and epic cinematic experience, with each movie offering a different perspective on the band's legacy. The announcement has generated excitement among fans and industry professionals alike, with Sony's Motion Picture Group CEO expressing enthusiasm for the project's potential cultural impact.
